The NSC top official declared this on Thursday during a parley with sports federations presidents held at the Abuja National Stadium on Thursday.

File photo: Athletes[/caption]The Presidents of the sports federations that were present at the meeting with the NSC big wigs were: boxing, Para-athletics, Para-table tennis, Para-lifting, Table tennis, athletics, weightlifting, wrestling, football, taekwondo and shooting.
“This meeting was called by the NSC to actually deliberate with the presidents of the (eleven) sports federations that will be participating in the Commonwealth Games for a better performances as relates to winning medals in the competition.
“We (NSC) want to know the federations want to prepare their athletes for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Youth Olympic Games competitions.
We want to also know how prepared are the federations to participate and win medals for Nigeria. The NSC is also keen on assisting the federations that have strong tendencies of winning gold medals in the competitions.
“We are targeting better results this time around that the previous games and the NSC want better preparations that could aid the winning of many medals but especially gold medals this time around.
“So any federation that we feel will not be able to meet up with this target will probably not have reason to go to the games. The reason is that we want to go to the Commonwealth Games especially, participate and win medals in Scotland.
That is what Nigeria wants to know and that is what we will be discussing today (yesterday). We want you to tell us how you intend to achieve this”, Elegbeleye disclosed.
