Bayelsa emerge champions of E.K. Clark Wrestling

Bayelsa state arguably, the home of wrestling in Nigeria proved their mettle with a grand performance at the recently ended maiden Chief E.K Clark Wrestling Championship held in Warri, Delta state.

A breakdown of the medals shows the state, with most of the country’s and African record holders, won 8 out of the 10 gold medals available in the men’s free style wrestling, with two silver medals.

In the women free style, they won three gold, a silver and two bronze medals and also won one gold, four silver and two bronze medals in the Greco Roman, amassing a total of 12 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze medals to emerge the overall champions.

The host state, Delta placed second with a total of 5 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals. They won 3 gold, a silver and 2 bronze from the Greco Roman; one gold, one silver and one bronze medal in the free style women and a gold, Two Silver and Bronze apiece  in the Free style men.

Ondo state pulled a surprise with 3 gold, one silver and two bronze medals to emerge the third overall best.
