With its spatial measurement, as an 18-hole standard golf course and known for being one of the biggest and best golf courses in the country, the IBB Golf Course, has been one of the major courses known for big tournaments in Nigeria, like the MTN WGC qualifiers, which is an annual tourney.

Speaking on the qualifiers so far, the General Manager, Consumer Marketing, MTN, Kola Oyeyemi, said “The World Golfers Championship qualifiers, has been a great revelation as it has over the year’s continued to excite both the golfers and the spectators, this is in line with MTN’s goal for creating excitement through the “gentleman’s game” and  quality services”.

The Eastern Regional edition saw Samuel Amadi, sensationally winning the tournament, with just four strokes from his club, to confirm his handicap, which is handicap-four.

While the Western Regional qualifiers had a measure of déjàvu, as last year’s MTN WGC Western Regional qualifiers winner, Christopher Obije, an Aeronautic Engineer, won the tourney once again, acquiring the nickname, “King of the West”.

While the “King of the East” remains undoubtedly, His Royal Highness, King Alfred Diete-Spiff, the traditional ruler of Twon Brass Kingdom, Rivers State, who has, continually, added royalty and class to the “gentleman’s game”.

MTN has, over the last five years, been sponsoring the qualifiers of the World Golfers Championship and is reputed for being one of the live wires that have kept the game going, helping to spread its popularity through regular sponsorship.
