The suspect, Akinde Olawale
The suspect identified as Akinde Olawale, who was also known as Oloye, was arrested on Sunday alongside two other members of the dreaded gang, Azeez Ogunsola and Akingbade Kaleyemi, while preparing to attack a church in Ewekoro.
Olawale, 27-year-old leader of a new robbery gang was known as Oloye while working with Godogodo but changed his name to Wewe after Godogodo was arrested.
The state Police Commissioner, Ikemefuna Okoye while parading the three suspects said the syndicate had been involved in robbing prominent Nigerians, including former President of Christian Association of Nigeria, Bishop Peter Akinola and football legend, Segun Odegbami among others.
According to him, Olawale has confessed to belonging to Godogodo’s gang. He, however, said he formed his gang after the arrest of Godogodo. They specialised in snatching exotic cars.
According to the CP, “they snatched many vehicles and operated between Abeokuta and Ota along the expressway. The syndicate bought AK-47 rifles and some pistols from a woman in Sagamu at the rate of N200,000 each.
“We recovered four AK-47 rifles, seven pistols, other guns and assorted charms.”
Vanguard, however, gathered that the former Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion has identified the suspect as the one that snatched his Prado Sports Utility Van, SUV, last December.
The suspect told newsmen in an interview that he was among the lieutenants of Godogodo who specialised in snatching exotic vehicles.
Olawale, who has two wives and three children, said he was known by unsuspecting members of the public as a commercial driver plying Agbara/Sango route in Ado Odo Ota Local Government Area of the state.
