I defied Ebola, bombs to be in Nigeria – British coach

BY JACOB AJOM A swimming coach, James Richards from Leeds in England is presently in Nigeria conducting a week-long technical coaching course put together by the Aquatic Federation of Nigeria for Nigerian coaches. Richards who arrived the country on Sunday said he was not deterred by news of the outbreak of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease ravaging West African countries, including Nigeria, where the coaching course is taking place. James Richard James Richard In a chat with newsmen in Lagos yesterday, Richards said, “I heard of the outbreak of Ebola and lots of stories about bombs exploding on a daily basis but being here now, everywhere seems so safe.” He disclosed that his target is to ensure the participants get acquainted with latest techniques on the strokes, racing tactics and planning as it would help them in future. “We intend to look at the role and responsibilities of a good coach, we look at training techniques and lots more,” he said. The young Briton said he was happy with the set of coaches attending the course. “The are pretty keen and enthusiastic in what they are doing. They are ready to learn and share ideas among one another.” He said the morning sessions will be theoretical while the afternoon sessions will be practical. “In the afternoons we will be going to the gym and at times the pool to test our skills.” The week-long technical coaching clinic is part of a FINA Development Programme.
