LAGOS — Two unemployed men, Anayo Okonkwo, 38, and Francis Okafor, 23,Tuesday, appeared before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, over alleged theft of armoured cable valued at about N4 million.
The accused, of no fixed addresses, were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Emmanuel Ajayi, told the court that the duo committed the offences on July 16 at HFP Engineering complex, Abraham Adesanya Estate, Ajah, Lagos.
Ajayi said the accused, at about 3:00 a.m., stole 35mm armoured cables belonging to the engineering company, valued at N4 million.
“They were arrested by the police when they were about bolting away with the cables,” he said.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
Anyone found guilty of theft is liable to three years imprisonment.
Magistrate A.F. Adeeyo granted each of the accused N1 million bail, with two sureties each in like sum, and adjourned the case till Sept. 23 for mention.
