BENIN CITY—ACTION Congress of Nigeria, ACN, chairmanship candidate in Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State, Mr Sam Oboh, has faulted the claim by the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the council, Mr. John Yakubu that he won the cancelled April 20, 2013 council election in the area.
It will be recalled that Edo State Independent National Electoral Commission, EDSIEC, cancelled the elections for the chairmanship and councillorship positions twice due to alleged electoral malpractices and violence perpetrated by supporters of both parties. EDSIEC said it would fix a new date for the poll.
The PDP candidate, Yakubu, had in a recent interview faulted the decision of EDSIEC to cancel the election, which he said he won. But reacting, ACN candidate, Oboh, told Vanguard that the claim was laughable, adding “if it was in a good society where the rule of law is respected, he should have been arrested for claiming victory in an election that was cancelled by the umpire.”
