Benue police nab 35 suspected cultists

MAKURDI — Following its renewed onslaught against increasing cult activities across Benue State, the state Police Command has arrested an alleged 35-man notorious cult gang operating in the town.

State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, Daniel Ezeala, disclosed the arrest to newsmen, yesterday, in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Ezeala said members of the gang were arrested at Katugun, a remote community in the North Bank area of the town where they had gathered for a meeting, preparatory to carrying out an "assignment."

He disclosed that several dangerous weapons which where found and recovered from the gang included guns, knives, axes and regalia.

The PPRO said; “You will recall that on assumption of office few weeks ago, the new Police Commissioner for Benue State, Mr. Adams Audu had declared an all out war against criminals and criminality in any part of the state.

“The arrest of this gang is in furtherance of that declaration and I can assure you that we will not shy away from our responsibilities to the people of the state and the command will continue strive to make Benue state a safe place for all.”

The PPRO enjoined members of the public to always avail the command necessary information that would assist its men and officers discharge its responsibilities to the public.

He further disclosed that members of the gang have been charged to court.
