Abuja - Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court on Tuesday in Abuja fixed Sept. 30 for the adoption of addresses in a criminal suit filed against Mustapha Umar, an alleged suicide bomber.
Ademola gave the date when the counsel to the suspect, Mr Sulyman Nurunee, officially announced to the court that his client had closed his defence.
Umar, who acted as the star defence witness, said he was framed by the police.
He explained that the police had extracted confessional statements from him at five different times.
According to him, ``I cannot remember giving any statements to the police in the course of my interrogation.
``They did try hard to force words out from my mouth by the way they maltreated and tortured me; I beg the Judge to consider my testimony as the truth,’’ he said.
Umar is standing trial for allegedly masterminding the ThisDay Newspaper office bombing in Kaduna.
The police brought a one-count charge against Umar under the Terrorist Prevention Act 2011.
