El-rufai: court to hear no-case submission Oct. 2

Abuja - Justice Abubakar Umar of an Abuja High Court on Thursday fixed Oct. 2, for hearing of a no-case submission filed by former FCT Minister Nasir el-Rufai.

Umar fixed the date after counsel to El-rufai, Chief Akin Olujimi(SAN), told the court that a prosecution witness, Mr Joseph Makoju, was not in court for the continuation of testimony.

He, therefore, urged the court to give him a date to file a no-case submission, in response to his client's trial over the alleged charges of misconduct and abuse of office filed by the EFCC.

El-Rufai is standing trial alongside Altine Jibrin, former Director-General of the Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS) and its former General Manager, Ismail Iro, for alleged abuse of office.

The EFCC also charged El-Ruafi with alleged illegal conversion of Plot 1201, a land meant for the construction of a transmitting/injection sub-station for the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in Asokoro.

The EFCC accused El-Rufai of allegedly allocating 10 plots of land in Asokoro District to members of his family, including his two wives, Hadiza and Hasiya.

The EFCC claimed that they committed the offence between 2003  and 2007.

At the court's last sitting on June 12, Makoju, a former Managing Director of the PHCN, while testifying, said Plot 1201, Asokoro District, belonged to the PHCN.

Makoju, being led in evidence by prosecution counsel, Adebayo Adelodun (SAN), told the court that the land was allocated to the company for a specific purpose in Abuja Master plan. (NAN)
