Newly formed political pressure group, Nigeria Unity Project, NUP, has described the unity of Nigeria as first priority on its agenda.
Speaking in Abuja, President of the group Mr. Francis Irabor stated that the unity of the country cannot be compromised saying “we must eschew violence and embrace peace so that we can live together in harmony which is the major objective of NUP.”
He decried the current state of insecurity in the country occasioned by terrorism which he argued poses a threat to sustainable development of the nation’s economy.
Irabor said: “We are only hearing these on radio and television from foreign countries. It portends a lot of danger before our dear country Nigeria because in those foreign countries where these things happened, they have sophisticated security systems.”
Noting that insecurity as a result of religious extremism or fanaticism is worse than that caused by political or ethnic differences, Irabor said that politicians have decided to cash in on the situation based on their calculation about 2015 elections to threaten power.
On the clamour for and against President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election in 2015, he affirmed that it gave birth to NUP so that the country can move forward and be united beyond 2015 to enable the President accomplish his transformation agenda.
He said: “Those calling on him to leave office in 2015 are definitely calling for the dismembering of the country.”
because we are all stakeholders in the Project Nigeria. For part of the country to be calling it is their right to rule, it signals danger for the country when an incumbent has not finished his constitutional tenure and has not been constitutionally disqualified.
He added that people should understand that Jonathan is representing people, so telling him to leave office is like telling a section of the country that they are less Nigerian then you and they should leave the country.
This does not represent good image for the unity of the country. That is why we have emerged to tell Nigerian that we should uphold the status quo which is ONE NIGERIA under Jonathan after 2015.
This is one of the major objective of Nigeria unity project, the 42 years old stated that the elder generation do not have our interest at heart because, the ways and manners they fight for power will adversely affect the country, thereby laying a bad foundation for the new generation.
Now it is time for we the younger generation to stand firmly for one Nigeria.
