Hoodlums beat monarch, sack community in Ogun

BY DAUD OLATUNJI
ABEOKUTA — Hell was let loose in Ehin-Ogbe   Community, a border town in Ogijo   area of Sagamu Local Government Area  of Ogun State when hundreds of hoodlums believed to be land speculators invaded the community, beat  the monarch, Oba Akeem  Elupepe, and  some residents before they sacked  the entire community.

An eye witness told Vanguard that the monarch, who was installed by Igode-in-Council, and four others sustained injuries following the attack.

The hoodlums, it was further learnt,  later  chased them  out of the community and subsequently took over, claiming that the land belongs to their forefathers.

Narrating his ordeal  in the hands of his attackers from  his hide-out, Oba  Elupepe  accused  his rival to the throne identified as Moshood Okeowo of sponsoring the hoodlums, alleging that the suspected sponsor of the hoodlums used policemen from Lagos State as shield.

He further said that  before the hoodlums attacked the village, policemen led by one Sergeant Lateef from Area ‘N’ Police Command, Ijede in Lagos State reportedly summoned  him  and other four people in the village  over a petition written by  Moshood Okeowo, Taiwo Okeowo and Bashiru Okeowo for alleged rape and detained them.

He said: “After we were released by the IPO, Inspector  Bassey, we were escorted by Police back to our village. As the policemen were about leaving us at the entrance of the village, we started hearing gunshots and we begged them to follow us to the village. They told us that they were behind us.

“As we  alighted from our car, the land speculators, who were more than 100, descended on us. I was seriously  beaten and rolled on the ground untill I was unconscious. I was later taken to hospital where I was revived."

Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the Police command was yet to be briefed on the incident.

Adejobi,  however, pledged to make public the command's position as soon as the Divisional  Police Officer in the area briefed the  command.
