I’ll qualify Malawi for 2014 W/Cup — Saintfiet

Malawi care-taker coach Tom Saintfiet  is looking for ‘ambitious players’ to help the Flames  qualify for next year’s World Cup in Brazil. The Belgian was appointed at the start of July on a two-month deal, tasked  with steering The Flames past the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their final Group F qualifier on 6 September – a win would put them through to the play-offs.

To achieve his dream, Saintfient said that he will carry out a radical overhaul of the Malawi squad.
He made the disclosure following the disappointing performance against Angola in Lusaka on Tuesday.

Malawi lost 2-3, effectively booted out of the Cosafa Castle Cup tournament.

The 40-year-old  tactician was angry at the lacklustre display.  Saintfeit has decided that he has to create a new Malawi team without the baggage of previous failures. He has concluded that the only chance of success is to make changes.

“l want to bring in players who match the hunger for success ,” he said in Kitwe, Zambia after Malawi were sent packing.

“Football is about results,” the Belgian said as his reign has started with two consecutive defeats.

“I am very disappointed,” he conceded, adding “If you don’t score your opportunities and give goals away like this, you can’t win.”

He said the Cosafa tournament has given him chance to see what to do when the team starts preparations for the Nigeria match.

Saintfiet remains confident he can get the required result against Nigeria.

“I am determined to succeed,” he said, adding “Malawi can go to the World Cup.”
The 40-year-old is confident he can get the required result.

He told BBC Sport: “I am 100% sure that Malawi can go to the World Cup

“What Senegal, Togo, Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica and North Korea have shown in the past is that smaller football nations can make it to the finals in the right moment, at the right time.

“Now is the right moment for Malawi.”
