ONITSHA—An Onitsha Chief Magistrate Court, presided over by Chief Magistrate M. O. N. Okonkwo, yesterday, remanded a 34-year old man, Anayo Okafor in the prison custody for allegedly defrauding a sales girl of her N2.3 million at Bridge-Head drug market, Onitsha in Anambra State.
In his ruling shortly after hearing from the prosecuting police counsel, Mr. Vincent Ogbu and the defence counsel, J. S. Ekezie, Chief Magistrate Okonkwo refused an oral application for bail pleaded by Ekezie and adjourned the case to August 26.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, Ogbu had told the court that the accused person, Okafor had on March 20, deceitfully received N2.3 million from one Miss Nkechi Onyemachi, a sales girl of Mr. Festus Okorie, a trader at the Bridge-head Market, Onitsha as well as swaying and hypnotising one other Onyemachi to abscond from her master’s shop.
