A 60- year- old surety, Henry Okoli, was yesterday arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court sitting in Ikeja, for allegedly stealing N4million belonging to a Company, Amazuma Nigeria Limited.
Okoli, who is facing a two- count charge of conspiracy and stealing preferred against him by the police, was docked before Magistrate Abimbola Komolafe.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Iranus Nnamonu, said that the accused committed the alleged crime in January, 24, 2013, at about 6pm, at Site 709,699,215,137,374 Globacom Mask situated in Lagos Island and its environs.
He said that the defendant and others at large conspired together, to steal a five AVR, from a generating plant and 1,300 litres of diesel valued N4million.
The prosecutor, said that the offence committed is punishable under section 409 and 285, of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria 2011.
It was said that the defendant, was standing as a surety for one of the people that stole five AVR from a generating plant and 1, 300literes of diesel valued at N4million, property of Amazuma Nigeria Ltd, which was meant for Globacom Mask.
It was said that when they could not find the suspect that Okoli, was standing surety for, he was arrested and charged to court.
However, when the charge was read to the defendant, who was looking dazed and in shadow of himself, pleaded not guilty to the two- count charge, levelled against him.
Magistrate Komolafe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with two responsible sureties in like sum.
She further adjourned the case to September, 17, 2013, for mention.
