Anambra 2014: We don't want a know-it-all governor- Group

By Chinweoke Akoma

A group, Anambra Reality Group, ARG, has said it is ready to play a pivotal role in issues relating to the emergence of who governs Anambra State come 2014 and beyond as well as mounting positive pressures to ensure effective performance at all times.

Addressing journalists in Lagos ahead of the  governorship poll in the state, the interim chairman of the group, Chief Clement Chukwuka, noted that the state, after 22 years of its creation, has nothing special to show for its vantage position at inception.

“Nnewi is supposed to be the the China of Nigeria while Onitsha  should be the commercial hub of Nigeria as it used be for West Africa but a lot has gone under the water  and the result is very bad. The Onitsha main market now appears to be a shadow of itself as most arms had relocated to neighboring states and its environs due to poor management of security and infrastructural issues by our leaders”, he said.

He pointed out that the proposed building of  Oba Airport was politicized and abandoned thereby resulting in the swift but proactive actions by  Delta State government who  set up a functional air strip in Asaba. This he  described as a  was  a  total loss to the state.

“Our great Chinua Achebe felt bad, that was why he refused to accept any  honorary award in Nigeria because he felt Anambra  has gone down the drains. The money that  was meant for the development of the state is now being pocket by individuals. Must Anambra State embark on politics of acrimony?. We need to think back creatively and get to where we belong”.
