Port Harcourt — AS the crisis in Rivers State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, persists, a non-partisan political pressure group in the state, Ekere Ikwerre, has offered to mediate in the crisis.
National President of the group, Engr. Dacoster Orlu-Akwu in a statement, yesterday, said that it was regrettable that despite the peace initiatives by the Ekere Ikwerre, Council of Bishops in Niger Delta and other well meaning individuals, some individuals and groups within the party had continued to make inflammatory utterances and carry out acts that would jeopardise the peace process and heighten tension in the state.
According to him, Rivers State was pre-dominantly a PDP state, which was why the goings-on in the party were directly impacting on the state.
Engr. Orlu-Akuw, a former Commissioner for Works and Transport in the state, urged the factions to be open to reconciliatory efforts by individuals and groups and appealed to them to sheathe their swords in the interest of the generality of the people of the state.
“PDP is a big party in Rivers State. The party should be more concerned about its political fortune rather than engage in needless battles that create room for exodus of its members and teeming supporters.”
