BENIN CITY— Afemai Youth Coalition, AYC, an umbrella body of all youths in the North senatorial district of Edo State, weekend, reiterated their call for the release of their son and human rights lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome.
While lamenting the general insecurity and killings in the country, which they attributed to bad leadership, the youths at Afemai Youth Summit, Auchi, called for a radical revolution to check kidnapping and ensure better funding in the educational sector.
In his opening address, convener of Afemai Youth Coalition, Dr. Philip Ugbodaga, who expressed worries that the youths might derail the nation’s democracy if the incessant kidnapping of people was not checked, however, described the nation’s leaders as wicked.
He said the leaders pauperised Nigerians, despite the fact that the nation was wealthy, and forced them into criminality.
“It is sad that our son, Chief Ozekhome, who has worked tirelessly for the poor masses is still being held by his captors. While we acknowledge the fact that our youths have engaged in all these illicit trade due to bad leadership, we appeal that he should be released to us,” he said.
