Sokoto - A gang of suspected armed robbers in the early hours of Sunday shot and killed a 15-year-old boy at Gandi village in Rabah Local government of Sokoto State.
The hoodlums attacked the residence of a business tycoon, Alhaji Yawale Gandi at around 3.00am on Sunday, where the boy was killed.
The suspects, who were said to have carted away undisclosed amount of money, also injured a 20-year-old man, who was treated and discharged from the Gandi Primary Health Centre.
The businessman, Gandi, declined comment on the incident but thanked God for sparing his life.
``I will not comment on this incident, but I will only thank God,'' he told NAN.
The spokesman of the state police command, DSP Al-Mustapha Sani, confirmed the incident in Sokoto on Monday, saying investigations had since commenced.
``We are suspecting that the hoodlums came from the neighbouring Zamfara, so, we are collaborating with the Zamfara police command to trail the men of the underworld with a view to arresting them," Sani added.
The Chairman of the local council, Alhaji Zayyanu Bello said on Monday that the council had held a security meeting on the incident and urged the police to ensure that the robbers were arrested.
``We have just finished an emergency security meeting sequel to the incident and we have made it clear to the police that the robbers must be apprehended.
``We were told that the hoodlums stormed the area in a vehicle and six motorcycles; we commend the security agencies, and we have made it clear to them that more should be done to secure the lives and property of the residents.
``We will also intensify our logistics support to them, while more police outposts would soon be established across the council areas," the chairman said. (NAN)
