Gunmen kill Chief Medical Director in Bauchi

Bauchi - The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Federal Medical Centre, Azare in Bauchi State, Dr Musa Mohammed, was on Saturday murdered by gunmen.

The Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Command, ASP. Hassan Mohammed, confirmed the development in an interview on Sunday in Bauchi.

He said that the deceased was shot and killed, along with Alhaji Muhammadu Manu, the District Head of Yame Community in the Dambam Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

“Mohammed along with Alhaji Manu was shot dead in Yame town at around 10.30 p.m. on Saturday.

The spokesman who said that no arrest had been made, said that the police had commenced investigation into the matter.

The late medical practitioner was ambushed on the Azare-Dambam road by the suspected assailants, who took him to Yame town before killing him and the district head.

Until his appointment as the CMD of the centre, Mohammed was Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency. (NAN)

Gunmen kill one, injure 15 at beer parlour in Benue

MAKURDI — There was pandemonium, yesterday, at Kyado town in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, when unidentified gunmen opened fire at a pub killing one and injuring more than 15 persons.

Vanguard gathered from sources that the assailants also went further to set several houses ablaze in the community.

Narrating the incident to newsmen, elder brother of the deceased and owner of the beer parlour, Mr. Tyowua Torsen, said the incident happened at about 8 pm on Monday when some customers had gathered at the beer parlour to unwind.

He said: “Unexpectedly, some armed men, numbering about 20, stormed my place and started beating and destroying property. At the time this was happening, I was on my way to Makurdi for an engagement.”

Torsen who alleged that the Ukum local government chairman, Teryima Nguher, masterminded the attack said: “I was on my way from Kyado to Makurdi when they called and told me on phone that the chairman of Ukum Local Government Council, Teryima Nguher, sent some thugs to my place.

"They were said to have asked after me at my beer parlour but my manager told them that I was not around. Irked by the response, they descended on Dooior Anza, beat him up. They also killed Msughaondo Lamana and injured scores of others.”

Reacting to the allegation, chairman of Ukum Local government Council, Teryima Nguher, said he had no hands in the act nor sponsored any thug to attack anybody, saying that the allegation was unfounded.

Contacted, state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Deputy Superintendent Daniel Ezeala said police had commenced investigations into the matter.
