19 nabbed over Ashaka police station attack

BY AUSTIN OGWUDA
ASABA —DELTA State Police Public Relations, PPRO,  Mr. Lucky Uyabeme, said yesterday that investigation was in top gear to ascertain the involvement of 19 persons so far arrested in connection with the mob attack on Ashaka police station, last week.

It was not clear whether the mob stole arms and ammunition from the station during the attack as the PPRO kept sealed lips on that.

He, however, told Vanguard in Asaba that “we are interrogating those arrested. So far, I think we have 19 of them. A thorough screening is on to ascertain their involvement, we will not hesitate to arraign them in court as soon as possible.”

A mob numbering over 200 had, last Wednesday, sacked the Ashaka Police Station in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of the state in protest against the death of a young man who got drowned in the river as police raided some hemp joints.

The incident took place when  a combined team of policemen and anti-cult group from the community carried out an early morning raid at some hideouts where cannabis are sold.
