Group hails global recognition of Nigerian film maker

By Gab Ejuwa
A Lagos-based socio-cultural group, Iwere Knights Association, has commended the election of a Nigerian film maker, Mr. Alex Eyengho, as the Vice-President of the International Federation of Film Producers Association (FIAPF).

He was elected to the position in May 2013 during the last General Assembly of FIAPF in Cannes, France.

The group, in a statement made available to newsmen, said the  election of  Eyengho, who is also the President of the Association of Nollywood Core Producers (ANCOP), into the global motion picture outfit, had boosted the global recognition of the Nigerian movie industry.

The statement, signed by the association’s President and Secretary, Mr. Taiye Ajiyen, and Mr. Tosan Clarke, respectively, hinted that the election of Eyengho as the first African and Nigerian  to that exalted position confirmed the superiority and global recognition of Nigerian movie industry.

The group also noted that the election of the politician cum film maker  had brought pride to Iwere land in particular and Nigeria in general.

”As an association, we believe as an illustrious and hardworking son of Itsekiri, he deserves the new recognition. We are also confident that he will use his position and experience to add value to FIAPF during his tenure,” the statement said.

Eyengho was, however, enjoined to use his new position to work and further the cause of the common man especially those who aspire to earn a living in the movie world.

FIAFP was created in 1933. It is the only existing global trade organisation dedicated to the defence and promotion of the legal, economic and creative interests of film producers throughout the world.
