Hotel staff docked over N640,000 theft

LAGOS — A 47-year-old man, Joseph Balogun, who is an  employee of Excellence Hotel and Conference Centre, Ogba, was, yesterday, arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate's Court, for allegedly stealing  N640,000, from the hotel.

Balogun, who was docked before Magistrate Abimbola Komolafe, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing preferred against him by the police.

The Police prosecutor, Inspector Iranus Nnamonu, said the defendant committed the alleged offence on September, 2, 2012, at the hotel in Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos. He said the defendant with intent to defraud the hotel, obtained the alleged sum.

According to him, the offence committed is contrary to section 378 and punishable under section 285 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge when it was read to him.

Magistrate Komolafe granted him bail in the sum of N100,000, with two responsible sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to August 8,2013.
