THE federal government has responded with near adequate conviction, the pressure by Western countries to impose the perverted culture of legalising homosexual lifestyles in Nigeria.
The two arms of the National Assembly have taken uncompromising stands, making a law prescribing a fourteen-year jail term for people caught, tried and sentenced for practising homosexual acts in Nigeria. Our President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, has also made it clear that he would align with the feelings of the Nigerian people and its supreme legislature in ensuring that the law is implemented.
We are, however, worried at the half-heartedness with which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is handling the matter. The Minister, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru, while recently re-iterating Nigeria’s decision not to succumb to pressures from the West on this vexatious issue, however opened some windows of possibility and prospects for homosexuality in Nigeria.
First, he begged the West to be patient with Nigeria and allow this lifestyle to take root here and be accepted by the Nigerian people before it would be given a free rein. Second, he conceded that Nigeria would accept gay diplomats to serve in this country.
Our rejection of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) nonsense is total and unequivocal. It is rooted in our cultural, religious and social values as a people. It is taboo, abominable and repulsive. Therefore, we cannot afford to allow the moral fabric of our society to be so degraded by foreign cultures and pressures as to allow these evil acts to become acceptable here some time in the future.
We must also not allow countries that have accepted them to export their gay citizens to Nigeria and use their diplomatic cover to practise it here.
Since our people have chosen to shun gay lifestyle here, we must be uncompromising about it because the reasons adduced are cogent. Homosexualism is a virus that degrades the family and its values, corrupts human cohabitation and offends God. It eventually leads to social decline.
We are a country on the rise to our manifest destiny as Africa’s example to the world. We must get there with our values intact as every great society attempts to do.
The West will never allow a person who is a confirmed paedophile, for example, to work in their country even as a diplomat. If the West cannot be allowed to send such perverts to Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran, why should they be allowed here?
We say no to gay diplomats in Nigeria. Part of the screening we must conduct before accrediting diplomats to represent their countries here should include checking their sexuality record. We say no, and we mean no!

Suswam decries rising cases of gay as BSACA uncovers gay club
BY PETER DURU
MAKURDI - Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue state has decried the rising cases of gay activities, urging the Church to lead the campaign against the unholy activity in Nigeria. This came as the state uncovered the existence of a 400 member gay club in Makurdi
Suswam also cautioned parents against abdicating responsibilities of keeping a close tab on their children whom he said were easily being lured into homosexuality.
The Governor spoke yesterday at a special thanksgiving service in honour of the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Beautification, Dorcas Depuun at St. Mary's Catholic Church, North Bank, Makurdi.
He said , "these things are happening out there, homosexuality is true and it is happening in our society, that is why parents must take more than a passing interest in their children that are of age and are tilting towards fellow the same sex other than the opposite."
Suswam observed that "gay activities and marriage is a mis-norma because every organ has a function and as long as it was used for the purpose other than that for which it was created by God then it's not right because all things created by God are perfect.
"These things are happening out there with our children right here in Makurdi; it is a disease; a hormonal problem", adding that "I get headaches from hearing such issues.
"I urge the church to continue to caution the people especially our upcoming youths against falling into this baneful trap because it connotes evil which is in total negation of the dictates and will of God for man because if same sex were allowed, then the aim of producing children as commanded by God would be defeated. "
Vanguard recalls that few weeks ago, the Benue State Agency for the Control of Aids, BSACA, uncovered the existence of a 400 member gay club in Makurdi the Benue state capital, where members meet to fraternize on a regular basis.

Cameroon gay rights campaigner tortured and killed
LIBREVILLE (AFP) - A gay rights campaigner in Cameroon was found dead in his Yaounde home after being tortured, Human Rights Watch said on Tuesday.
Eric Lembembe's body was discovered in the capital on Monday and his body showed he had been extensively tortured, the group said in a statement.
"Friends of Lembembe found his body on Monday evening. According to one of his friends his neck was broken and his face, hands and feet were burned with an iron," the statement said.
The organisation referred to the incident as "murder" and called on the authorities to carry out a "thorough" investigation.
They said Lembembe was found after worried friends had been unable to contact him by phone.
The front door to his house was padlocked on the outside but they could see his body through a window and called the police, who broke down the door.
Lembembe, who was executive director of the Cameroonian AIDS Foundation, was an outspoken advocate of gay rights in a country where homosexuality is punishable by up to five years in prison.
He was a "close associate of HRW", the group added.
Non-governmental organisations have regularly denounced the arrest and imprisonment of homosexuals in Cameroon, as well as the threats received by those who try to defend their rights.
The latest incident comes just weeks after an arson attack on a charity providing help to homosexuals with HIV.
In October 2012, Michel Togue, a lawyer known for defending homosexuals revealed that he and a fellow lawyer, Alice Nkom, had received death threats. His office had also been burgled and legal papers and a computer stolen
Togue told AFP that he had also received a chilling text message, which read: "Mr Togue, choose which of your children we will turn into a fag like you. Then you will know what defending them brings ... and not even the intervention of white fags will save them."

Alleged gay pastor held for abusing teenager released
BY EGUFE YAFUGBORHI
PORT HARCOURT— A CHURCH founder simply identified as Pastor Chinagoro has been released by the Oyigbo Divisional Police Office in Rivers State after five days in detention for alleged abuse of a 13-year-old Destiny Kalu.
The police, acting on complaints by the victim’s mother, Mrs. Kalu through a counsel, had arrested the Pastor who runs a church in Mbesie, Imo State after the teenager had confided in her mother that the suspect has been having sex with him through his anus.

Vanguard investigations revealed that Destiny, a drummer, had been living with Chinagoro who offered to take care of him out of pity over his parents’ living condition in their Port Harcourt residence.
“The pastor was making love to me in my anus with other children after stripping us naked. I was not the only one. I had reported the issue to some persons who come around the church but no one listened,” the abused teenager said.
He said he left the suspect’s house and picked courage to report to his mother because the suspect was always recording the abusive sexual acts in one of his phones and that every night after satisfying the urge, there would be a strange noise.
While in police custody, a pregnant relative who visited the suspect reacted: “I don’t think my brother could do such thing. It was in my house my brother (the suspect) met Kalu, offered to help and took him to Imo where he has been running his ministry for years and nobody has accused him of any wrong doing.”
After an initial restraint, the Police at the Oyigbo Division Police Officer, Mr. Joseph, the Divisional Police Officer confirmed that the Pastor was in custody but that the matter was still under investigation.
Days later, the Oyigbo Divisional Crime Officer, DCO, told the reporter that; “The mother of the victim has accepted a peace accord and also said she doesn’t want her son’s issue published.”
When confronted Mrs. Kalu said; “The police forced me to accept. The suspect has already made confession of his atrocities. That was why I hired a lawyer. To my greatest surprise, my lawyer changed overnight after meeting the police and the issue of peace started. I was not in support of that initially, but as a poor woman I have no option than to let go.”
Destiny’s mother said the police have paid the bills for treatment of her son’s abused anus, but “my annoyance is that the doctor who has been cooperating with me have also changed and refused to give doctor’s report of my son’s case.
“I was told by my lawyer that I will be compensated with N100, 000 on Sunday but the meeting scheduled among the suspect, my lawyer and the police could not hold on the reason that the suspect is ill though somebody said my money will be given to me as soon as the suspect sells his car.”
Our investigation also revealed that the suspects may be facing another trial as another parent whose son is among the alleged victims of the Pastor’s sexual oddities has indicated interest in instituting a separate court action.
