Alleged gay pastor held for abusing teenager released

BY EGUFE  YAFUGBORHI
PORT HARCOURT— A CHURCH founder simply identified as Pastor Chinagoro has been released by the Oyigbo Divisional Police Office in Rivers State after five days in detention for alleged abuse of a 13-year-old Destiny Kalu.

The police, acting on complaints by the victim’s mother, Mrs. Kalu through a counsel, had arrested the Pastor who runs a church in Mbesie, Imo State after the teenager had confided in her mother that the suspect has been having sex with him through his anus.

Vanguard investigations revealed that Destiny, a drummer, had been living with Chinagoro who offered to take care of him out of pity over his parents’ living condition in their Port Harcourt residence.

“The pastor was making love to me in my anus with other children after stripping us naked. I was not the only one. I had reported the issue to some persons who come around the church but no one listened,” the abused teenager said.

He said he left the suspect’s house and picked courage to report to his mother because the suspect was always recording the abusive sexual acts in one of his phones and that every night after satisfying the urge, there would be a strange noise.

While in police custody, a pregnant relative who visited the suspect reacted: “I don’t think my brother could do such thing. It was in my house my brother (the suspect) met Kalu, offered to help and took him to Imo where he has been running his ministry for years and nobody has accused him of any wrong doing.”

After an initial restraint, the Police at the Oyigbo Division Police Officer, Mr. Joseph, the Divisional Police Officer confirmed that the Pastor was in custody but that the matter was still under investigation.

Days later, the Oyigbo Divisional Crime Officer, DCO, told the reporter that; “The mother of the victim has accepted a peace accord and also said she doesn’t want her son’s issue published.”

When confronted Mrs. Kalu said; “The police forced me to accept. The suspect has already made confession of his atrocities. That was why I hired a lawyer.  To my greatest surprise, my lawyer changed overnight after meeting the police and the issue of peace started. I was not in support of that initially, but as a poor woman I have no option than to let go.”

Destiny’s mother said the police have paid the bills for treatment of her son’s abused anus, but “my annoyance is that the doctor who has been cooperating with me have also changed and refused to give doctor’s report of my son’s case.

“I was told by my lawyer that I will be compensated with N100, 000 on Sunday but the meeting scheduled among the suspect, my lawyer and the police could not hold on the reason that the suspect is ill though somebody said my money will be given to me as soon as the suspect sells his car.”

Our investigation also revealed that the suspects may be facing another trial as another parent whose son is among the alleged victims of the Pastor’s sexual oddities has indicated interest in instituting a separate court action.
